1) Is there a cost to register for these programmes?
ANSWER: A registration fee of J$450 is payable upon collection
of the UWI application forms.
2) Can I apply for the UWI Certificate programme
at any time?
ANSWER: The annual registration period for the UWI’s Certificate
Programmes is January – mid-March. The deadline for receipt
of application forms for the 2005-6 Programmes is February
25, 2005.
3) When do classes begin?
ANSWER: Classes for Semester One begins on September 5th
and runs until December 17th, 2005. Semester Two begins
on January 9th and runs until May 14th, 2006.
4) What happens after I submit my registration
from?
ANSWER: By April, all applicants to the
UWI Certificate Programme will receive a Letter of Acknowledgement
of their application for the programme. This letter of acknowledgement
informs you whether or not all necessary documentation has
been received. Selection of qualified application is completed
by July of the Academic year, after which,
applicants will receive official notification of the status
of their application.
5) Will my Certificate be awarded by B&B Institute
of Business or the University of the West Indies?
ANSWER: All Certificates will be awarded by the University
of the West Indies. The name ‘B&B Institute of Business’
will not appear on the Certificate awarded by the University.
All Certificates must be collected from the Examinations
Section of the UWI.
6) What is the Institute’s relationship with the
UWI?
ANSWER: B&B is an Associated Institution of the UWI.
As an Associated Institution, we offer UWI programmes that
will allow persons to matriculate to a full undergraduate
Degree offered by the UWI and other Universities.
7) Who controls the Programme the UWI or B&B
Institute of Business?
ANSWER: B&B Institute bears responsibility for all administrative
functions on behalf of UWI Certificate students enrolled
at the Institute. All courses and assessment undertaken
as a part of either Certificate programme are designed by
the University’s lecturers. Final marks, received for the
courses undertaken are conferred and posted by the University.
8) Who governs the UWI Certificate student?
ANSWER: Individuals registered in the UWI’s Certificate
Programme are governed by the rules and regulations of both
B&B Institute of Business and the UWI. Students are
expected to abide by the general codes of conduct and other
agreements entered into with the Institute.
Students are advised to consult their B&B Student’s
Guide for detailed information on the roles and responsibilities
of B&B’s students. Students are also expected to abide
by UWI academic polices and procedures, pertaining to: withdrawal
from a course of study; plagiarism; changes to registration
status; examination procedures. Students are advised to
consult their Faculty Handbook for detailed information
on these and other applicable University policies and procedures.
9) Are any exemptions offered to Certificate students?
ANSWER: Students may ONLY be exempted from
any of the prescribed courses for either UWI Certificate
Programme if they were previously enrolled in a UWI Programme
that was not completed.
10) Will the UWI Certificate allow me to be exempted
from any Level I undergraduate courses at that Institution?
ANSWER: Holders of UWI Certificates may be exempted from
Level I undergraduate courses at the UWI if the courses
are the same as those pursued as part of the Certificate,
providing that the UWI Certificate was not used for matriculation
purposes. All exemption requests must be submitted in writing
no later than September 30, of the Academic Year in which
the course is to be done.
11) Do you award any scholarships?
ANSWER: At the moment, there are no scholarships available
to B&B students.
12) Can students apply to the Student’s Loan Bureau
for funding?
ANSWER: Students may apply to the Student’s Loan Bureau
to pursue the UWI’s Certificate programmes.
13) Are there any other financial arrangements
in place to assist students?
ANSWER: The institution offers flexible tuition payment
plans to ease the financial burden of tuition fees. Students
wishing to enter into such arrangements must do so in writing,
outlining a payment schedule. Final approval is at the discretion
of the Principal.
